crocodiles creche

                                     CROCODILES CRECHE

Crocodiles lay eggs in river banks. They lay 60 eggs. The eggs are about 5-8 cm long. It is shaped like a hen's egg. The crocodiles cover the eggs with grass reeds and leaves so they can protect heavy rain of the wet season. As the leaves rot the temperature gets warmer inside The mound If the temperature is warmer most of the babies will be males and if it is cooler most of them will be females. The mother crocodile keeps watch over her nest she is never far away If you went near her nest you might not see her because they are good at camouflaging themselves in the water after ninety days the babies  are ready to hatch The baby crocodiles begin to call with chirping sounds Their mother hears them call some are cracking the shell with their sharp egg tooth The mother crocodile doesn't hurt them she just holds them that she can carry them down to the river she places them near the water’s and returns for the others baby crocodiles. when the babies have been safely from the predators.Their mother stays with them watching over them and helping them they learn about the world. They learn how to swim but they stay close to their mother the babies learn how to catch insects frogs and small fish to eat. They will stay in a crocodile creche until the are able to look after themselves. Life is full of dangers for young crocodiles At first they are 25 centimeters long a tasty treat for bigger predators They learn to hide among the river plants when the shadow of a large bird swoops across the water they also learn to look out from predators.
